Approximately 9 million people were living in Switzerland at the end of 2024.
Around ¾ of them had a Swiss passport.
In other words, 2,368,364 foreign nationals were living in Switzerland at the end of 2024.
The ‘permanent foreign resident population’ includes people with a C settlement permit, a B residence permit, an L short-stay permit for 12 months or more, including recognised refugees.
⅔ of them were from an EU/EFTA country.
